why this exists

We got tired of reading "best AI SEO agency" lists written by AI SEO agencies.

So we built the directory we wished existed — one that researches every listing itself, labels what it can't confirm, and has no service of its own to sell.

The problem with "best AI SEO agency" lists

Search "best AI SEO agency" and you'll find dozens of near-identical roundups. Look closely and a pattern shows up fast: most are published by an agency that sells the exact service being ranked, and more than one of them ranks itself first. The rest mostly reshuffle the same fifteen or twenty names, with little independent verification behind any of it.

We ran into this while trying to evaluate agencies ourselves, for reasons that had nothing to do with running a directory. The pattern held everywhere we looked: self-published rankings, unverifiable claims, and no consistent way to tell a genuine AI-search specialist from a traditional SEO shop that added a "GEO" page last year. So we built this instead.

What we do differently

We're not an agency

We don't sell AI SEO or GEO services, so we have no reason to rank anyone but who earns it. No listing is paid placement.

We research every listing ourselves

We cross-check every claim against multiple public sources — company sites, review platforms, press, business databases — instead of repeating what one blog said.

We label what we can't confirm

No case studies, no reviews, conflicting founding years? We show the gap plainly instead of hiding the listing or picking whichever number sounds best.

We separate the story from the proof

A published methodology and independently verified results aren't the same thing. Every profile scores them separately, so a good pitch deck can't stand in for evidence.

What "we did the research" actually looks like

SeoProfy publishes its own "best generative engine optimization agencies" post — and includes itself in it.

That post cites a 4.9-star rating across 450 Clutch reviews. We checked directly: the actual Clutch page shows well under 100 reviews across every archived snapshot, and SeoProfy's own G2 seller profile shows zero, with G2 stating there aren't enough reviews to provide buying insight at all. We didn't leave SeoProfy off the list over it — their case studies and client roster are real. We built a dedicated section into their profile explaining exactly what we found, so you can weigh it yourself.

The four specialization tiers

Every agency gets sorted into one of four tiers, based on how it was built rather than how it markets itself. Read the full breakdown, including how we assign each tier →

01

Pure-play GEO specialist

Built after 2024 specifically for AI search. No legacy SEO business.

02

AI-first agency

Young shop where GEO is the majority of the offering.

03

Full-service with AI/GEO practice

Established SEO agency that added a dedicated AI visibility line.

04

Enterprise / brand agency

AI visibility folded into broader brand and PR strategy.

Where we are today

We're early, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise.

15

agencies researched and indexed so far

0

agencies found yet in three of the four tiers — genuine pure-play, AI-first, and enterprise-brand specialists are rarer than the market's own marketing suggests

scoring system, deliberately not built yet — we wanted the tiered, honest-gaps approach proven out first
